RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL of the TRANSFIGURATION

228 N. 12TH Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11211, (718) 387-1064

Christ is Risen! But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus Who was crucified. He is not here; for He has risen as He said. Come see the place where He lay”. (Matthew 28:5-6)

“Do not be afraid!” The Myrrhbearing Women, stunned by their Master’s death, had much to fear. Yet their faith was not shattered; their resolve was not shaken. Their fear vanished as they saw death vanquished. Their hearts were filled with unspeakable joy as they gazed into the empty tomb. Their emptiness was replaced with the fullness of God’s presence in a world which, today as then clings to any sign of hope.

Today, as we join the women in approaching the empty tomb, our fear and apprehension is instantly transformed into unspeakable joy and wonder. “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” we are asked. “He is not here; He is Risen!” At once, the words “Follow Me” take on new meaning as our destination — “the never-ending day of Thy Kingdom” that lies beyond the empty tomb — is fully revealed to us. And in this revelation, our true nature as beings created for eternal communion with our Creator and with one another is likewise revealed. As Saint Paul reminds us, while we remain “in the world,” we are not “of the world.” And while we have been given a foretaste of the Kingdom yet to come, we also have been charged with proclaiming the never-ending day of His Kingdom here and now, to all who would listen, with every word and in every act of forgiveness and compassion, of kindness and of love. It is only through our belief that we behold the full splendor and beauty of Pascha. With eyes of faith, on Pascha we become witnesses to the complete and ultimate victory of life over death, of freedom over captivity, of God over the evil one. “Trampling down death by death,” our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ grants new life to all who believe in Him as King and as God.

On this radiant and joyous Feast of Feasts, I would like to assure you of my prayers. I am asking you to join me in making a new and deeper commitment to the Risen Lord.

Christ is Risen! Indeed is Risen Pascha 2011 With Love In The Risen Lord, Fr.Wiaczeslan and Church Council
